DJOKOVIC ACCUSES MEDIA OF DEMONIZING HIM FOR REFUSING TO GET COVID-19 SHOT
Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic slammed the media for portraying him as a villain over his refusal to get the Covid-19 vaccine during a recent interview with the Italian outlet Corriere della Serra.
Djokovic defended his decision as being based in the “freedom of choice” and people being free to decide what goes into their bodies.
“I'm not anti-vax and I've never said I was in my life. I'm not even pro-vax. I am pro-choice: I defend freedom of choice. It is a fundamental human right to be free to decide what things to inject into one's body and what doesn’t,” said Djokovic.
“I explained it once to the BBC , on my return from Australia, but they eliminated many sentences, the ones that weren't convenient.”
Djokovic blamed the media of using him as a convenient target by falsely labelling him anti-vaccine.
“The system, of which the media are a part, required a target that was opposed to the mainstream; which I have become. They put the anti-vax label on me , something completely false, which still gives me a stomach ache,” said Djokovic.
SWISS TV AD ABOUT A 79-YEAR-OLD “YOUNG LESBIAN TRANS WOMAN”
Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS), a Swiss public broadcasting organisation, has released a podcast featuring a 79-year-old “young trans woman” Uschi.
The PSA aims to raise awareness and acceptance of transgender people in Switzerland.
In the podcast, Uschi claims to have begun transitioning at the age of 70.
“I am Uschi, a young woman of 79. I am a trans woman, who is also a lesbian. I began my transition at the age of 70,” Uschi says in a short clip.
The podcast is part of a series of campaigns by RTS to promote social inclusion and human rights.
“Uschi, a transgender senior, welcomes Aurélie and Christine into her home. On the menu: Hungarian goulash and secrets. And so that the trans community gives up as little space as possible to the intergenerational gap, young Sam and Lillia stretch their ears and their hearts,” writes RTS.
ASSOCIATE OF EMMANUEL MACRON ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED DATE RAPE OF FORMER SISTER-IN-LAW
Laurent Bigorgne, a political analyst alleged to be close to French President Emmanuel Macron and former director of the Institut Montaigne withdrew an appeal to a suspended one year sentence after he was accused of drugging his former sister-in-law in order to rape her.
The 2022 court case surrounded the drugging of his former sister-in-law, Sophie Conrad, with ecstasy during a dinner at his home.
Conrad, who was also a colleague of Bigorgne at the Institut Montaigne, managed to escape and seek medical help after feeling the effects of the drug.
She testified that Bigorgne had intended to sexually assault her, a charge that he denied.
The court sentenced Bigorgne to a 12-month suspended prison term and a fine of €2,000.
Critics of the sentence allege that political interference led to a light sentence for the influential policy adviser.
CLIMATE RADICALS SPILL BLACK INK IN ROME’S HISTORIC TREVI FOUNTAIN
A group of climate activists with the Last Generation group staged a protest in Rome's historic Trevi Fountain on Sunday, spilling a black liquid into the water.
They were quickly detained by the police and are facing charges of defacing a public monument.
The Trevi Fountain, built in the 18th century, is one of the most famous landmarks in Rome and attracts millions of tourists every year.
Activists claimed that they used a charcoal-based liquid that is harmless to the environment and can be easily washed away.
The protest was condemned by Italy's Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano, who called the activists "eco-vandals" and said they must pay for the restoration of the monument.
"Attacking monuments by eco-vandals is becoming a tired ritual which, unfortunately, however, has an economic cost for citizens and perhaps even causes damage,” said Sangiuliano.
"I am sure that Parliament will soon want to approve the provision that will make them pay the huge costs that the community incurs every time."
AUSTRIA’S PUBLIC BROADCASTER ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO SWITCH TO AN INSECT-DIET
An Austrian meteorologist took to public television to encourage citizens to switch to an insect-based diet.
The ORF column “Zib-Magazin Klima” by weatherman Marcus Wadsak delved into a tangent attempting to promote alternative proteins in order to prevent climate change.
"Worms to snack on or burgers made from beetles,” said Wadsak.
"If we talk about climate change, then we also have to talk about our diet.”
Wadsak pointed to how “crickets, worms and the like have been on the plates in other countries for a long time.”
For those grossed out by the prospect of eating bugs, the article stated that worm burgers were a “light version for insect beginners.”
