DRAG QUEEN TO TRAIN TAXI DRIVERS ON DIVERSITY
Taxi drivers in Vienna, Austria will have to undergo diversity training after a prominent drag queen complained of facing discrimination from a specific company’s cabbies.
Drag queen "Candy Licious” alleges discrimination while trying to secure taxi services.
Licious, who claims to have been frequently denied service, filed a complaint with the 40100 taxi company. The company, in an effort to address the issue, engaged in discussions with Candy Licious.
"It has happened to me many times that taxi drivers have not taken me," said Licious.
The outcome of these discussions has led to the inclusion of diversity training for taxi drivers, which will encompass customer interactions.
Licious is personally contributing a two-page section on "Diversity" for the training materials.
“It's going to be personal, it's going to be about discrimination and how it makes you feel, but it's also going to be legal,” said Licious.
“Drivers should recognize that they are offering a service in which prejudices have no place and people should not be judged by their appearance.”
MACRON TO BE ASKED TO HOLD IMMIGRATION REFERENDUM
Jordan Bardella, the President of France's National Rally party, is poised to make a significant proposal during the high-profile "Meetings of Saint-Denis" gathering.
Set to take place on Wednesday, this event will see Bardella calling on President Emmanuel Macron and other party leaders to hold a national referendum on immigration.
In his statement, Bardella outlines a specific timeline for this proposed referendum, suggesting that it should coincide with the European elections on June 9, 2024.
“On Wednesday in Saint-Denis, I will ask Emmanuel Macron to organize a referendum on immigration on June 9, 2024, the day of the European elections,” tweeted Bardella.
"The Meetings of Saint-Denis" serves as a platform where political leaders from various parties represented in Parliament convene to deliberate on pressing national issues.
Bardella's call for an immigration referendum is expected to take center stage during these discussions.
SWEDEN’S RIGHT-WING PARTY LEADER REJECTS NOBEL PRIZE INVITATION
After the Nobel Foundation snubbed the leader of the populist right-wing Sweden Democrats last year, the organization has shifted gears and extended an invitation to Jimmie Åkesson.
However, Åkesson has declined the invitation in a Facebook post, citing prior commitments.
According to the Nobel Foundation, it has changed it’s policy this year and will be extending invitations to all party leaders in Sweden. Additionally, it will also extend invitations to ambassadors from Russia, Iran and other nations formerly excluded.
“Since the Sweden Democrats are a party in the Swedish Riksdag, the Sweden Democrats' party leader will also be invited to this year's Nobel Festival,” said CEO Vidar Helgesen.
“We see that we live in a steadily more polarized world. The Nobel Prize represents the opposite of polarization, nationalism and populism. The achievements we reward require openness, exchange and dialogue between people and between nations, and we wish to contribute to more of that dialogue. We wish to counteract the tendency to divide into spheres where dialogue between dissenters is reduced.”
GERMAN MUSEUM HAS “NO WHITES ALLOWED” POLICY
The Zollern Colliery museum in Dortmund, Germany, is at the center of a controversy due to its policy barring white patrons from attending the "That's Colonial" exhibition.
Museum policy allows entry only to "Black, Indigenous, and People of Color" (BIPOC) visitors on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., prompting allegations of discrimination and racism.
The museum justifies this policy as creating a "safer space" for BIPOC individuals.
“If there’s a People of Color in there now and I say I don’t want that White guy in here, then you must go out,” the museum claims.
According to the outlet Remix, it’s discriminatory policy made headlines after the denial of entry to a team from the Antenne Frei radio station, consisting of white individuals.
Museum employees struggled to explain the exclusionary practice when confronted by the radio host, leading to accusations of racism.
“If there’s a People of Color in there now and I say I don’t want that White guy in here, then you must go out,” said one museum employee.
“Because we have the wrong skin color?” asked the radio station host.
“I can’t explain that. I can’t explain that,” replied the employee.
