#35: EU WANTS TO MANDATE CLIMATE-FRIENDLY HOME RENOVATIONS
Insect-based ice cream goes on sale in Germany + how Spain's new "trans law" violates rights + Charles Dickens gets woke revamp by the BBC + MORE!
35 MILLION HOMES WILL NEED MANDATORY RENOVATIONS
This week, the European Parliament voted to introduce a plan that could require an estimated 35 million buildings across the continent to be renovated so that they can become more climate-friendly.
The project has stirred up a considerable amount of debate due to the significant expenses that homeowners may face.
Markus Pieper, a representative of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), expressed his concern by stating that the project could potentially burden homeowners beyond their means.
The costs of such a program are astronomical. In Germany alone, it could cost up to 254 billion euros.
According to the European Commission, 150 billion euros could be made available for taxpayers by the year 2030 but home owners and landlords will be largely expected to cover the costs.
“There is obviously no longer an antenna for social realities. We cannot pass on the costs of fighting climate change to Grandma's house,” said CDU MEP Dennis Radkte.
The measure is part of the EU’s 'Fit for 55' climate program that seeks to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
PARLOR SELLS INSECT-BASED ICE CREAM
An ice cream shop in Rottenburg, Germany is now selling insect flavoured ice cream made from house crickets.
This comes after the European Union approved the sale of a variety of insect alternative proteins for the European market.
Eiscafe Rino also offers a dried cricket topping for those interested.
“We’ve literally been inundated with… lots of criticism, lots of compliments, lots of surprises and lots of curiosity about our new cricket flour ice cream,” said cafe owner Thomas Micolin who invented the flavor.
“I’ve eaten a lot of things, including a lot of strange things, and crickets were something I still wanted to try, also in the form of ice cream.”
The ice cream is made from cricket flour, cream, vanilla extract and honey.
“I have customers who come here every day and buy a scoop,” said Micolin.
SPAIN IS NO LONGER A FREE COUNTRY AFTER PASSING “TRANS LAW”: LAWYER
Spanish lawyer and head of the association Abogados Cristianos, Polonia Castellanos told the outlet Remix that Spain’s new transgender legislation violates fundamental rights.
“The constitution is being violated, citizens’ rights are being violated, and to avoid any responsibility, Pedro Sánchez’s government has been appointing judges who are close to them, even judges who earlier were in the Sánchez government,” said Castellanos.
“The truth is that we are in a dictatorial country, a country that does not respect the rule of law.”
Among the changes implemented by the Sánchez government include lowering the age of informed consent for transgender operations to 16 and allowing people to change genders on official records simply by self-identifying.
“It is a radical law, and this law has been enacted when there are countries realizing that these things do not work. In Spain, we are going against the latest trend. We are being more stupid than others,” said Castellanos.
TURKEY’S LEFT-WING PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE WANTS TO EXPEL MIGRANTS
Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader and presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has promised to expel Syrian and Afghan refugees within two years of being elected.
“We will send our Syrian brothers and sisters back to their country within two years. We will also send the Afghans back to their home country,” said Kılıçdaroğlu.
"The border of the country is its honor. We want to live freely in our own country. We do not want the demographic structure of our country to change.“
The social democratic CHP is the second largest party in Turkey and the main opposition to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party.
CHP is also a member of the Party of European Socialists and the Socialist International.
BBC WOKIFIES CHARLES DICKENS’ “GREAT EXPECTATIONS”
The BBC has injected woke ideology into its upcoming series based on the classic Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations.
Created by the writer of Peaky Blinders, Stephen Knight, the show is imbued with anti-colonial messaging throughout.
At one point in the series, one of the leading characters Magwitch claims that the British Empire was “built on the lies of privileged white men.”
“It's everyone's right to react in the way they want to react,” said Knight.
“But I would say that the book exists, it is still there. This is not an attempt to say the book is wrong or this is better.”
The six-part series will be airing on BBC One next Sunday.
