“DEFEND ROMANIA” PROTEST TAKES OVER BUCHAREST
Tens of thousands of Romanians took to the streets in Brussels and Bucharest on Saturday to protest the current government for introducing bills which opponents claim undermine Romania’s national interests.
The rallies were led by the populist Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) leader George Simion.
Crowds overtook Bucharest and assembled outside of the Romanian Parliament calling for an end to the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and National Liberal Party (PNL) coalition.
“There are a lot of people. A record demonstration. Probably, the biggest demonstration in recent years. We are defending Romania. I will tell you what we are protesting for: we are defending the children, we are fighting for the country's wealth, we do not want to sell the companies to foreigners,” said Simion.
“There are far more than 10,000 people. The televisions will distort our message. They will tell lies about our rally on the televisions. We will go to PSD and PNL to withdraw the anti-national laws.”
Despite being only founded in 2019, AUR has recently polled close to 20%. Accoridng to a poll from earlier this year, 17.9% of Romanians would vote for AUR while 17.2% would cast a ballot for the PNL.
EU WANTS TO ADD COST OF “ANIMAL SUFFERING” TO THE PRICE OF MEAT
The European Court of Auditors (ECA) has proposed adding the cost of animal suffering to the price of meat as it prepares to revise animal welfare regulations for the EU.
A report by the ECA slammed animal transport and other forms of suffering livestock undergo.
“Transporting live animals over long distances can have harmful consequences on their welfare,” said report author Eva Lindström.
“There is a risk that transporters could exploit loopholes that derive from the different national sanctions systems.”
The ECA proposed a slate of solution such as small-scale slaughterhouses, reducing the length of transport and finally, charging more for meat products that have been transported a great distance.
To do this, the ECA suggests embracing a labelling system so that consumers who want to pay more for more ethically-sourced products could do so at their own expense.
BRUSSELS EXHIBITS LGBT JESUS
An exhibit within the European Parliament has stirred some controversy after depicting Jesus Christ as an LGBT figure.
Member of European Parliament (Reconquête) Nicolas Bay called the exhibit an insult to Christians and Europeans.
“On the initiative of a member of the far left, an exhibition featuring Christ as a racialized LGBT activist is installed in the European Parliament,” tweeted Bay.
“Those who insult Christianity would obviously not dare to do the same against Islam. By attacking our civilization, they insult all Europeans.”
The exhibit was created by Swedish photographer Elisabeth Ohlson and is titled “ecce gay.”
One of the pictures shows a figure of Jesus surrounded by people dressed in BDSM clothing and chains.
ORBÀN SLAMS WOKE VIRUS OVERTAKING THE WEST AT CPAC HUNGARY
In a keynote address at CPAC Hungary, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán warned against the dangers of the ideological “woke wave” overtaking many Western nations.
“A virus attack has been launched against us. This virus was developed in the progressive liberal laboratories,” said Orbán.
“This virus is attacking the most vulnerable point in the Western world, and that is the nation. It is a nation-destroying virus that will atomize and pulverize our nations.”
During his speech, the Prime Minister praised Hungary’s status as a safehaven for conservatives from around the world.
“I think there is only one reason why we are in this elite club. There is one thing that makes our country an important place. It is the fact that Hungary is actually an incubator where the conservative politics of the future are being experimented with,” said Orbán.
“Hungary is the place where we have not only talked about defeating progressive liberals and making a conservative Christian political turn, we have done it.”
IRISH WOMEN PROTEST TRANSGENDER SEX OFFENDER BEING HELD IN WOMEN’S JAIL
Women’s rights advocates protested the presence of male-born sex offenders being held in women’s jails.
On Friday, the group Irish Women’s Lobby shared photos of the protest outside of Limerick’s women’s prison.
“At the opening of the new wing of Limerick’s prison where one of the men housed in the women’s estate threatened to rape female guards,” tweeted Irish Women’s Lobby.
According to the group, Ireland’s Minister of Justice Simon Harris refused to hear their concerns despite touring the facility at the same time of the protest.
“It is really important that when it comes to prisoners being held regardless of who he or she is then they are housed in a way that absolutely at its core has the safety of the prison population and the people working in the prison community,” Harris has said in the past.
Transgender inmate Barbie Kardashian is being held in the facility after being convicted for threatening to kill and rape his mother.
