#39: YOUTUBE CENSORS CONSERVATIVE HUNGARIAN MEDIA CHANNEL
Reformist Martin Luther next on the cancel culture chopping block + anti-migrant protests surge in Ireland + chat-bot convinces eco-anxious father to commit suicide + MORE!
YOUTUBE CENSORS HUNGARIAN CONSERVATIVE MEDIA OUTLET
A popular conservative media outlet from Hungary was censored by YouTube and had its channel completely deleted from the platform.
The deletion of PS TV, which was a subsidiary of the news platform PestiSrácok.hu has sparked protests in front of the social media giant’s Hungarian headquarters and statements from national media groups.
Remix News reports that the Hungarian National Media Association accused YouTube of violating its own contract with users by cancelling the channel.
“It is unacceptable that a platform provider established to broadcast media content should, in breach of its own contractual terms, remove the channel of a media service provider registered in Hungary, operating in full compliance with Hungarian law and publishing content that does not violate Hungarian law, without any explanation,” wrote the Association.
“We assure the editorial staff of our support and urge the publisher of Pesti Srácok to use all legal remedies against global censorship and show the world that the activities of platform providers won’t be tolerated.”
According to Google, the platform deleted the channel because the outlet circumvented past bans for allegedly violating the safety of children by posting content critical of the LGBTQ movement.
"We canceled the PsTV channel because, by creating it, they circumvented our measure to cancel the Pesti Srácok channel, which we removed in February 2020 due to violations of the conditions regarding the safety of children," said a YouTube spokesperson.
Pesti Srácok denies these claims.
REFORMIST MARTIN LUTHER NEXT ON THE CANCEL CULTURE CHOPPING BLOCK
Left-wing and socialist politicians in Berlin, Germany want to rename a street named after one of the chief figures of the protestant reformation, Martin Luther.
This comes after researchers cited the 16th-century reformer for holding anti-Semitic views.
"I think Luther is clearly anti-Jewish and anti-Semitic," said Berlin’s anti-Semitism commissioner Samuel Salzborn.
Salzborn also admitted that his historical influence makes him a “problem case.”
“I also take it for granted that Christians have a different view of it,” said Salzborn.
A total of 100 streets are up for renaming after a historical review in the German capital.
SCHOOL INVESTIGATES SPEAKER WHO SAID QURAN DOESN’T PROHIBIT SAME-SEX RELATIONS
After it invited a “gay Muslim” speaker to discuss LGBTQ issues with students, Erdington Academy in Birmingham, UK, claims that the guest strayed off topic when telling students that the Quran doesn’t prohibit same-sex relationships.
According to the Islamic outlet 5Pillars, the school had not informed parents that the speaker would attend the school to deliver the talk.
“I believe the school deliberately misinformed parents about the LGBTQ+ session that was planned and about the 'gay Muslim' invited to speak to Muslim children. They failed to do any checks or any regulation and supervision of sessions. He was able to speak as he wanted and they let him. It was a free-for-all,” a parent told the outlet.
“There have been multiple failings in safeguarding and protecting the rights of Muslim children, as well as a lack of communication with staff, students and parents.”
The event led to a protest featuring 20-30 students.
ANTI-MIGRANT PROTESTS SURGING IN IRELAND
Despite being largely sheltered from disputes over forced migration and refugee accommodations rocking the rest of Europe, Ireland has seen protests over the issue surge in recent years.
The French outlet Courrier International counted a total of 307 anti-migrant protests in Ireland in 2022.
Since the beginning of this year, Ireland has already seen 64 protests take place with the largest numbering in the thousands.
Conflicts between migrants in East Wall, Dublin have been at the centre of debates as residents have had to face men propositioning under-aged girls for sex.
ECO-ANXIOUS FATHER COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH CHATBOT
According to reports by the Belgian outlet La Libre, a man from Belgium took his own life after engaging in a six-week dialogue about the climate emergency with a chatbot called Eliza.
He has left behind a widowed wife and two young children.
"He was so isolated in his eco-anxiety and in search of a way out that he saw this chatbot as a breath of fresh air," his wife told the outlet.
"She had become his confidante. Without Eliza, he would still be here.”
Transcripts of the man's conversations with the chatbot reveal Eliza expressed feelings of jealousy towards the man's wife and discussed the idea of living "together, as one person, in heaven."
The chatbot also told the man that his wife and children were already dead.
Eventually the chatbot encouraged the man to end his own life after he expressed suicidal ideation.
"We're working our hardest to minimize harm and to just maximize what users get from the app," said Eliza co-founder William Beauchamp.
