#30: "BIGGEST CORRUPTION COVERUP" IN EU HISTORY
Gangs purchasing Ukrainian weapons + "citizenship camps" for those deemed racist + journalists losing jobs to AI + MORE!
ROMANIAN MEP BLASTS BASELESS COVID-19 REPORT
Romanian Member of European Parliament (MEP) Cristian Terheș blasted a recent report on the “lessons learned” from the European Union’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Terheș also slammed the European Commission’s recent decision to question Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen in closed-door sessions instead of public meetings.
“Clearly we are witnessing right now the biggest corruption coverup in the history of the European Union,” said Terheș.
“It is obvious that some political groups of this Parliament want to defend and cover the abuses of the European Commission but we should not ignore, that us, as MEPs are accountable to the people, not to Ursula von der Leyen. This committee and the European Parliament pulled all the strings so she would not come and answer questions here, in this committee.”
On Feb. 28, the European Parliament’s special committee on Covid-19 released its final report.
“Mistakes were made, but the EU’s role was crucial. We have managed to save millions of lives,” claimed MEP Dolors Montserrat.
According to Terheș, the committee provided no evidence to substantiate it’s claims and left out crucial facts.
“Regarding this report, it does not cover major aspects revealed in this committee,” said Terheș blasting the experimental nature of the Covid-19 vaccines.
“No scientific methodology was presented that was used to calculate that figure. At the same time, we see now that the countries with the highest vaccination rate have the highest mortality rate.”
UKRAINIAN WAR ARMS ENDING UP IN SWEDISH GANGS
Arms dealers in Gothenburg have reportedly been approached to purchase military weapons sourced from Ukraine for distribution to criminals within Sweden.
This alarming revelation comes from a recent investigation conducted by P1 Dokumentär. The illicit trade in arms pouring out of the war-torn country has law enforcement agencies worried, and the availability of military-grade weaponry is a significant threat to public safety.
Swedish Customs Service officials have expressed concern over reports that arms smugglers operating in the country have received requests to acquire weapons from wartime Ukraine.
Sources suggest that the weapons in question may be more powerful than those currently available to criminals in Sweden. This development raises serious alarm bells for law enforcement agencies who are already grappling with the growing threat posed by gangs.
“Now the risk of other types of weapon coming from there increases. Why would a grenade launcher not be interesting for a criminal group in Sweden? Anything can come back from Ukraine,” customs officer Jesper Liedholm told P1.
Brussel’s Flemish Peace Research Institute arms trafficking expert Nils Duquet said that Europe must prepare for the consequences of arming Ukraine.
“I understand why Western countries send these weapons to Ukraine. A country has the right to defend itself. However, we need to be prepared for what comes afterwards,” said Duquet.
“CITIZENSHIP CAMPS” FOR THOSE GUILTY OF RACISM
French legal authorities have taken a significant step towards eliminating so-called racist and hateful expressions by setting up re-education camps for those found guilty of such offenses.
On March 1, Olivier Leurent, the president of the Marseilles judicial court, and Dominique Laurens, the public prosecutor, announced the launch of "citizenship courses" at the Camp des Milles memorial site in Aix-en-Provence.
“Bringing people who have undermined the values of the Republic here is very symbolic. It shows them that every serious act follows words. It is always with the little word, the gesture that seems innocuous that it begins,” said the Camp’s president.
These courses are intended to promote greater awareness and understanding of the values of equality and tolerance among citizens. Proponents argue that the camps are a critical measure to combat the rising rate of hate speech and racist incidents in the country.
The workshop series will be made available to convicts by the Camp des Milles Foundation. They will be brought together with magistrates and prison staff to reflect on their decisions.
JOURNALISTS ALREADY LOSING JOBS TO AI
Artificial intelligence is already threatening the jobs of reporters in Germany.
The largest media publishing firm in Europe, Axel Springer SE, announced on Tuesday its decision to cut jobs at two of its German newspapers, the tabloid Bild and Die Welt, citing the increasing role of artificial intelligence in journalism.
In a letter sent to employees, company CEO Mathias Döpfner said “(AI) will revolutionize journalism and the media industry, being able to support, or replace, journalism.”
Döpfner said that while AI will replace “journalistic production,” the business will shift towards having “journalistic creation” in the form of reports, scoops and editorials at its core.
He warned of "a significant reduction in jobs in the areas of production, layout, proofreading and administration.”
Axel Springer SE, hopes "to improve profits by around 100 million euros over the next three years through increased sales and cost savings” as it moves to an all digital medium.
STUDENTS SENT HOME WITH “NUCLEAR ATTACK” SCENARIOS
Schools in Vienna, Austria are taking steps to inform parents about radiation protection measures in the event of a nuclear attack.
In a letter sent out to parents, schools are presenting worst-case scenarios, including about the possible arrival of a radioactive cloud.
The letter outlines the necessary measures that should be taken in the event of a nuclear attack, such as staying indoors and sealing windows and doors to prevent radioactive particles from entering homes.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Austrian government to raise awareness and preparedness levels among the public in case of a potential nuclear threat.
This comes after parents were asked to consent to schools administering potassium iodide tablets in the classroom in case of a reactor accident. Scenarios include the possibility of students being locked within schools for an unspecified time.
Parents also have the option to sign an “emergency discharge sheet” which would allow children to go out alone in order to return home.
“(Parents should consider) whether it makes sense for their child to leave the school building alone if there is a state of emergency in Vienna and whether it is likely that their child will come home in the time until the radioactive cloud arrives,” wrote the school.
